Eden Leisure Village is a rural site surrounded by fields in the Lanarkshire countryside. If you like a bit of city action with your rural escape, this is the spot for you, as Glasgow is only a 20-minute drive away. It’s a great base for families who want to explore Central Scotland too, as Stirling and Edinburgh both have plenty of historic sights and are easily accessed by the M80 and M9 motorways.

But you don’t have to stray too far away from the site, as there’s masses to do locally too. As well as sourcing bits and pieces for barbecue meals in the supermarkets, Cumbernauld (10 minutes) has a raft of takeaways – from fish and chips to Chinese – if you don’t want to cook.

The town is also something of a gateway to nature walks and treetop rope courses in Palacerigg Country Park, and kids can wear themselves out with archery lessons and paintball battles at Cumbernauld Outdoor Activity Centre. Make sure they save some energy for time back at the site though – they're bound to want to spend time at the play park and explore the fairy wood.

Other well-maintained site amenities include a dog park (a maximum of two well-behaved dogs please), chemical toilet disposal, a shower and loo block and baby-changing facilities. There are electric and water hook-up points too.
